Ightham Mote South East, England

Ightham Mote dates in part from the 14th century.  This lovely little medieval manor house is somewhat isolated in the Kent countryside but its isolation may have contributed to its survival.  Its owners over the past 600 years never destroyed what they had with improvements.

The moat we see today has not been altered in size although an additional stable block and cottages were built on the grounds at a later date the footprint of the manor remained the same.

The manor is laid out in a courtyard plan.  The interior reflects many different time periods but the exterior is almost entirely medieval.
